Since we've got lots of per-screen information spread across several arrays, and for future features (eg. mult-upstream support) yet more to come, it's time to consolidate into a per-screen private structure. Initially just moving the upstream root window ID into it - others follwing by subsequent patches. Leaving it as a global array and not assigning private data to Screen structure yet. X Server
The X server accepts requests from client applications to create windows, which are (normally rectangular) "virtual screens" that the client program can draw into.
Windows are then composed on the actual screen by the X server (or by a separate composite manager) as directed by the window manager, which usually communicates with the user via graphical controls such as buttons and draggable titlebars and borders.
