DRI3 version 1.3 introduced a new request which allows clients to provide a hint to the server about which DRM device they are using, so that the server might return DRM format modifiers specific to that device. However, implementing such functionality, for Xwayland in particular, will require fairly significant architectural changes. To avoid blocking future versions of the DRI3 extension, we provide here a stub implementation for the request in question. The spec explicitly states that it is only a hint that the server is free to ignore, so strictly speaking this implementation is still correct. X Server
The X server accepts requests from client applications to create windows, which are (normally rectangular) "virtual screens" that the client program can draw into.
Windows are then composed on the actual screen by the X server (or by a separate composite manager) as directed by the window manager, which usually communicates with the user via graphical controls such as buttons and draggable titlebars and borders.
